I was wrapping up photographing this amazing building for a favorite architect here in Colorado this July. Finishing up the interiors I went outside for the final exterior photos of the day. At first I was disappointed because the sky was dark and the light wasn’t as I had envisioned or planned for. Storms happen, time-tables are revised and flexibility is important as a photographer. I decided to stay and see if anything interesting would develop or maybe clear up fast enough to have a nice sunset. The storm blocked some light, and there was no colorful sunset, but it did eventually turn into an amazing light show. In the end I worked two cameras for over 3 hours as the storm moved past, watching in awe. The final photographs were not as I anticipated, but I’m glad I didn’t pack up and go home because things didn’t go as planned.

It’s been a long time since I did a major website overhaul. Always overdue, actually because a good portfolio is a constantly morphing, changing entity. However – I did recently add a new gallery of portraiture that I’m proud of. Mostly recent work for magazine and commercial clients. Take a look, let me know what you think!
I had a wonderful time meeting and photographing the team at Flitch Studios the other day here in the Denver area. We made some environmental portraits and captured some documentary photography as they worked. Their craftsmanship is amazing, and I’d LOVE to just sit in the chair they were working on at the time.
I was finally able to photograph Annie at The Denver Puppet Theater the other day. She is always amazingly busy, I found. That makes sense because Annie is not only a wonderful puppeteer putting on a variety of fantastic shows. She also creates all of the puppets, is a kind human being and provides a wonderful service to all of the children who attend. I believe that her method of helping people think creatively and open their mind is treasure to all those who attend.
Congratulations to Linsdey and Josh! Their wedding was beautiful and I’m honored they selected me to photograph such an important day for them. They were married this August in the Denver Botanic Gardens and the reception followed at The Magnolia Hotel here in Denver, Colorado.
As you may know, I am accepting 5 weddings a year to photograph. My background is in photojournalism and I continue to work regularly as a documentary, editorial photographer. So, I approach each wedding as an authentic wedding photojournalist, all the while understanding and appreciating the importance of capturing beautiful portraits of the couple and their family.
Below are my 6 favorite black and white photographs from the day. Yep, I used a camera set to capture in black and white. I also used traditional high-end digital cameras and even created a few portraits using medium format film.

This is a gallery showcasing some of my recent photography work for construction, developer, hotel and contractor clients. If you are a construction company with projects in Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs or even into Wyoming, North Dakota or beyond that you wish to document or highlight, take a look. Yep, I own a pair of broken in steel-toe boots, hard hat and other PPE. I understand construction timelines and don’t mind taking off those boots when the project if finished and we head inside to photograph the finished interiors.

Below are 6 new non-traditional landscape photographs from my ongoing project, On The Road. The photographs are not manipulated, and are an attempt to capture the beauty of the landscape as I pass, usually en-rout to an assignment.
A heavy, cold rain poured down on Debra Neeley as she set-up and opened her pioneering Green Gate Farm Stand Saturday morning, but dampen her spirit, or the enthusiasm of her customers it did not. As the opening hour of 9am passed, her front porch – turned farm stand – was packed with customers snatching up fresh herbs, eggs, greenery and tomato starter plants.
This might conjure a picture of life in a small rural town, or of a time long ago, but Debra Neeley is the proprietor of Green Gate Urban Farm and Gardens, a farm located in the backyard of her home in urban Denver, Colorado. She is a one of the first to take advantage of recently passed “cottage food” legislation to legally produce and sell home-grown produce and homemade foods from her residence.
After a full day of training and just days before he left Colorado for his Olympic debut in Sochi, U.S. figure skater Jason Brown agreed to go outside in below freezing temperatures and some serious snow to pose for a few portraits for me. We made a several wonderful photographs, the best two are below, and through the entire day of training and freezing outside Jason was generous with his time and energy, friendly and helpful, and a true pleasure to meet and work with.
